PQI Opportunity: Physician QI Advisor

The Physician QI Advisor will inform the overall direction of PQI in the Northern Health region and co-lead the implementation of the PQI program in a capacity mutually agreed upon by the PQI Manager and PQI Advisor. The Physician QI Advisor is a 0.1 FTE (4 hrs/week). The location is flexible to any Northern Health site.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

 Initiative Oversight

• Provides overall physician leadership and input into program planning and delivery of the Northern Health PQI initiative
• Takes an active role in the implementation of the PQI program:
  • Attends regular meetings with PQI manager
  • Attends monthly PQI team meetings
  • Participates in recruitment and hiring of new staff
  • Informs program budget
• Prioritize and act on system improvement opportunities involving physicians and Health Authority
• Participate as an active member of the SSC/NH QI Steering Committee and provides input into strategic planning (bi-monthly)
• Attend provincial PQI meetings as required and works collaboratively with other participating Health Authority PQI programs

 Quality Improvement Activities

• Participates and provides facilitation/teaching in QI training sessions
• Actively promotes QI and leadership activities
• Actively participates in program engagement activities (e.g., Journal Club, in-person community-based events, networking activities)
• Provides peer mentoring and coaching to physicians around QI and leadership
• Participates in special projects
  • Program priorities (physician engagement, alumni opportunities, QI and leadership training)
  • Inform/participate/lead QI projects in collaboration with Health Authority

Qualifications and Experience

• Medical degree and current registration with the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons
• Practicing physician within Northern Health; active privileges at any Northern Health site
• Have experience in quality improvement planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Formal quality improvement training
