ISAR learning sessions

Quesnel - ISAR cultural safety spring learning sessions

The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs) in partnership with Len Pierre Consulting are looking forward to hosting a community-based experiential learning session

The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs) in partnership with Len Pierre Consulting are looking forward to hosting a community-based experiential learning session on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Lhtako Dene First Nations Longhouse in Quesnel, BC.

We are grateful to hold this session on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territory of the Lhtako Dene First Nation who have lived on and stewarded these lands since time out of mind.

During these sessions, physicians will experience:

  • Cultural safety teachings through an immersive, “circle and the box” learning
  • Teachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communities
  • A shared meal, language, history, and stories
  • A deeper understanding of residential school trauma
  • Connections with local health staff and providers.
  • The opportunity for on-going learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities

In these sessions, themes of colonial genocide, systematic separation from Indigenous identity, land and culture and the resulting mental and physical health disparities, will be discussed. These themes may surface personal stories and participants are encouraged to prepare to hear this difficult journey.

Please note that sessionals and mileage exceeding 50km one-way will be covered by the JCCs. If you have additional questions, please email jcc@doctorsofbc.ca.
